UV LED Technical & Safety Statement

General technical and safety statement covering all Queendom UV LED components — product nature, wavelength classification, safety requirements, compliance and disclaimer

Queendom · Component Engineering Group

1. Product Nature

All Queendom UV LEDs are electronic components (for example SMD 5050 and 3535 packages), designed exclusively for integration into professional systems by qualified engineers. They are not finished devices and do not constitute medical, disinfection or consumer products.

2. Wavelength Classification and Applications

BandWavelength rangeTypical use casesKey limitation
UVC254 nm – 280 nmAir, water and surface disinfection modulesMust be used in fully enclosed, interlocked systems only
UVB280 nm – 320 nmMedical phototherapy, sensingRequires clinical device certification for therapeutic use
UVA320 nm – 405 nmUV curing, fluorescence, counterfeit detectionNot effective for germicidal applications

Note: 405 nm emits a faint visible violet light and is not a germicidal wavelength. It is used for curing and for fluorescence, not for disinfection.

3. Critical Safety Notice

  • UVC and UVB radiation can cause severe eye injury and skin burns within seconds of exposure.
  • Never operate without proper shielding, interlocks or personal protective equipment.
  • Direct human or animal exposure must be prevented by system-level design.
  • Queendom does not guarantee disinfection efficacy. Performance depends on dose, exposure time, airflow and system geometry.

4. Compliance

  • Photobiological safety: IEC 62471:2006 — Risk Group 1 (exempt) when used as intended.
  • Environmental: RoHS 3 (EU 2015/863); REACH SVHC-free.
  • Integration: intended for industrial, commercial or medical OEM integration only.

Photobiological risk classification belongs to the finished system, not to the bare component. A risk group quoted for a component describes it as measured under standardised conditions; the enclosure, the interlocks and the operating distance of the end product determine the classification that applies to the installation.

5. Disclaimer

Queendom provides UV LED components as electronic parts. The buyer assumes full responsibility for:

  • System safety design.
  • Regulatory compliance of end products.
  • Verification of application suitability.
  • Adherence to local laws, including FDA, CE and China RoHS requirements.

This statement applies to all UV LED products unless otherwise specified in individual datasheets. Where a datasheet and this statement differ, the datasheet governs the parameters of the specific part number.

6. Safe Integration Checklist

The component cannot enforce any of the following. They are the system-level decisions that determine whether the finished product is safe, and they should be closed out before a design is released to production.

  • Enclosure. The emitting apertures are enclosed so that no direct or reflected path reaches an operator, a service technician or an animal during normal operation, maintenance and fault conditions.
  • Interlocks. Opening the enclosure removes drive power. Where an interlock can be bypassed for service, the bypass procedure carries its own PPE requirement.
  • Labelling. The finished product carries the eye and skin hazard warning for its wavelength band, not a generic optical-radiation label.
  • Risk assessment. The end product is classified under IEC 62471, and the exposure limits are evaluated at the position where a person can actually be, including the worst case.
  • Thermal and drive. Drive current, junction temperature and thermal path are designed together, so that the operating point stays inside the ratings that the datasheet guarantees.
  • Materials. Enclosure windows, seals and optics are selected for the wavelength band and the irradiance they will see, because UVC degrades many common polymers.
  • Documentation. The dose and the claimed performance of the end product are supported by measurement on the finished system, not by extrapolation from the component rating.
