San’an Optoelectronics Raises Prices on LED, RF, Power and Optical Chip Lines

China’s largest compound semiconductor maker has confirmed it is raising prices across four product lines at once, a rare move that underscores how raw material inflation is now hitting every corner of the LED supply chain.

Four product lines, one price increase

San’an Optoelectronics confirmed in an investor relations Q&A on its interactive platform that, to offset rising costs for precious metals and substrates, it has raised prices on selected LED chips, RF chips, power-electronics chips and optical-technology chips. Raising prices simultaneously across four product categories is unusual for a company that has operated in a fragmented, price-competitive market for years.

Silver and gold fuel the cost pressure

The stated driver is raw material inflation. London Bullion Market Association data cited in market reports shows silver prices have climbed roughly 159% over the past year, while gold has risen about 12%. Substrate and precious-metal inputs account for a meaningful share of chip production cost, and the increases have forced manufacturers across the chain to pass through costs.

Peers follow suit

San’an is not alone. Leaguer Micro, Xinhai Technology and other chip suppliers have responded to investor inquiries saying they have also adjusted prices on selected products to reflect cost changes. The moves mark a turning point for an industry that endured years of price erosion.

For LED component buyers, the practical takeaway is to lock in purchase volumes and quotes early, and to build multi-source supply relationships rather than relying on a single chip supplier, as pricing dynamics at the chip level will ripple into packaging and finished luminaire costs over the coming quarters.
